We find it difficult to let go.
Especially our emotions that relate to love. Love for our near & dear ones. Our possessions. Our anger.
Love creates in us an attachment. We become dependent on the one we love. Our needs & wants get attached to that person.
Our mind will tell us to let go. But deep in our hearts, we are unable to accept the change. We remain closed to other possibilities, opportunities.
Fearing they’ll shake us up completely. Unknown to the outcome, we hold on. We don’t give up on our emotions towards people or possession. We try to live in expectations that they would never leave us!
But what has to go will go away. In spite of our best efforts to hold on. It only causes us more pain in the long run.
Any relationship needs acceptance at both ends. One sided relationship will only be a cause of pain. It won’t let either of us live in peace!
Same thing goes with anger. We have anger towards a particular situation or an individual. We hold on to the anger for years. We are not ready to accept the outcome because the outcome is completely different from what we had expected.
Worrying about it can’t help us. We can’t change it by worrying. It’s best to release ourselves from that anger. We must gracefully accept whatever happened.
Pixar’s movie Inside Out, very beautifully showed it by using anger, emotion, joy, fear & jealousy as humane characters living within our head.
Joy fears to lose the core memories of the girl which she treasures. She makes the girl revolt against the change around her. She makes her chase her happy past bringing chaos & pain in her life.
It’s only when the emotion touches those joyous core memories turning them sad, that the girl comes to terms with what happened. She still treasures those memories, but with a sadness instead of joy.
But, this very acceptance allows her to make bigger & better core memories of joy in her mind.
Anger strains us. It makes us frustrated & irritating!
Live light, be light. Hold lightly. Let go when it seems strained. Holding on unnecessarily long will only disturb us mentally & physically!
Sometimes we are put to test by time. Circumstances force us to let go of our most precious & dear possessions. We might want to hold on to our life. But the situation & time make us lose them.
Learn to let go whenever you have to. Life is here to teach us. We cannot hold on to anything. Be it time, joyous moments of our past. Our thoughts, emotions. Our capacity to work, which diminishes with age.
We need to accept it. We must learn to let go & be at peace.
Walk the journey of Life, one step at a time. The leg which moves forward while lifted, has to move backwards while resting on the ground. That’s is what will push you forwards.
